Delia Heck Spoke on Environmental Racism During Black History Month

By Mary Stoudt

Ferrum College celebrated the Black History Month with various events throughout February. In the last week of this year’s celebration, Delia Heck, professor of environmental science at Ferrum, gave a presentation on environmental racism in the US.

Heck defined environmental racism as an injustice that occurs in practice and policy within a radicalized context and further explained it with numerous examples.

“We’ve known about this problem [environmental racism] but we’ve not made progress addressing it,” Heck said.

Happy “Bearentines” Day

By Mary Stoudt

Selecting an animal, stuffing it, and naming it has been a popular tradition at Ferrum College for years. Typically students build their bears during homecoming festivities; however, due to the COVID the 2020-21 school year’s bear building was pushed back to Valentine’s Day.

Snow Days at Ferrum: There's Snow Place Like Home

By Mary Stoudt

While students were relaxing in their dorm rooms at Ferrum College, roughly two inches of snow fell from late Jan. 27 to the early morning of Jan. 28, creating
beautiful views outside of their windows. For the first time this school year students were on campus to witness a snowfall that accumulated and stayed on the ground throughout the week. Following this initial snowfall, roughly another three inches of snow then fell throughout the day of Jan. 31, bringing to Ferrum a long moment of peace.
