“I was most interested in the position here at Ferrum for the opportunity to gain new experience in residence life while continuing to work in an area I am most familiar with, recreation,” Bowyer said.
Bowyer is hopeful that intramural sports - even under the COVID - will be able to begin again.
“I am optimistic that intramural sports will return this semester with a variety of options,” said Bowyer, “unfortunately, we may not be able to offer our most popular sports like basketball since it involves constant play in close proximity to one another. However, I hope we can schedule kickball, tennis, and cornhole since those sports are played outside and at a further distance from teammates and competitors.”
While Ferrum continues to monitor the COVID-19 on campus and Franklin County, students should stay on the lookout for information regarding the return of intramurals.
Prior to Ferrum, Bowyer worked at Roanoke College for seven years as the director of Campus Recreation. During his time at Roanoke, Bowyer also served as the Faculty- and Staff-in-Residence, where he lived on campus and advised an "internal" living community.
Outside of work Bowyer enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog Zoey.
“I also enjoy playing golf, cheering for all of the Pittsburgh professional sports teams, and traveling, pre-pandemic,” Bowyer said.
As the semester continues, Bowyer hopes to meet more students throughout the coming weeks. Bowyer's office is located in Franklin Hall room 104A near the Mailroom.
