First Theatrical Design Contest Went Virtual

By Lindsey Foster

Focusing on emerging performing artists and theatre designers, Ferrum’s Theatre Arts and Musical Theatre Program held the first annual and virtual performing and theatrical design contest entitled Perseverance on Feb. 27, 2021.

The contest was open to incoming Ferrum College students who will enroll by the beginning of fall 2022, as well as non-prospective students that are 24-year-old or younger. All contestants were asked to submit a piece of performance on the theme of perseverance before Feb. 21, 2021. Eighteen entries were selected as finalists.

All winning submissions would be recognized as part of the Ferrum Performing Arts and Theatrical Design Contest Festival. The top three winners received a visa gift card valued $100, $50, and $25 respectively. Another two honorable mentions received a $10 gift card.

Students who plan to enroll at Ferrum by fall 2022 were also eligible to win two scholarship prizes. The first-place scholarship was $4,000 ($1,000 per year), and the second-place scholarship was $2,000 ($500 per year).
