This event was hosted by the Ferrum Activities Board and Student Government Association and was originally planned to occur on Feb. 18, 2021. Due to the potential February power outages from forecasted inclement weather, this event was postponed and eventually took place at the beginning of March.

“I’m thankful God brought us together and gave me this opportunity to perform for you all,” Currence said.
At the BHM event, Currence performed songs that were written to inspire change and hope in today’s uneasy social climate. These songs were originals by Currence and covers of other famous songs including, “Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cook and “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers.
One of Currence’s original songs that he performed at the BHM event was entitled “#HOPE,” which is about the hope for a better tomorrow from events that have transpired over the past year with COVID-19 and other social justice issues. This song is also of particular importance to Currence. During the performance, Currence dedicated this song to his father that was part of the Civil Rights Movement.
After the performance, Currence also conversed with attendees regarding how the COVID-19 global pandemic has impacted them as students and others in their lives. Following the discussion, free merchandise was given away, which included signed Rudy Currence posters, free t-shirts, and #HOPE hoodies.
The Ferrum Activities Board will hold an upcoming “Paint Night” event in the Panther’s Den on Mar. 31 at 7 p.m. For more information, you may contact Ferrum College’s Director of Student Activities, Justin Muse, at jmuse@ferrum.edu.
