Ferrum College’s Chrysalis Literary and Arts Magazine had their official reveal of the spring 2021 edition on Apr. 19, 2021, about two months after the autumn/winter 2020 issue was released in February 2021. This event - with refreshments provided - returned to an in-person meet at the Blue Ridge Mountain Room in Franklin Hall.
(The cover photo of Chrysalis’s spring issue was taken by Riley Church and is titled Between the Smoky Mountains.)
This spring 2021 issue - which is also the last issue for this academic year - was edited by seven Ferrum students, along with sophomore Abigail McGovern being the Editor-in-Chief and English professor Katherine Grimes serving as the advisor. The judges for this issue were Lisa O’Quinn, Sidra Kaluszja, Ferrum alumna Cindy Rhinehart, and Rex Stephenson.
At the reveal event, the first- and second-place winners of four categories were also announced. Junior and Chrysalis staff member Alyssa Hogan won first-place in art. The second-place art was a drawing piece by senior Suzie Maines. Sophomore and Chrysalis staff member Caroline King was the first-place winner and McGovern was second-place winner in the prose category. Within the emphasis category of poetry, Chrysalis staff member Jessica Prince Norton took first place and junior Chelsea Zizzi won second-place. Junior Shela Muriel won first place in photography. Maines placed again by winning second place in the photography category.
